Ed Mann became active as a volunteer with the FRCE in 2017 and has agreed to assist with projects as requested. Ed is currently The Director of Training and Education for Provident who has graciously given Ed the approval to volunteer for the FRCE.
Ed served as the Pennsylvania State Fire Commissioner having been originally appointed in June of 2000 by Governor Tom Ridge. He served Governor’s Schweiker, Rendell and Corbett until January of 2015. Under Ed’s leadership the Office of State Fire Commissioner received national awards from the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation, The International Association of Fire Chief’s and the Congressional Fire Service Institute for their efforts to reduce line of duty deaths.
Ed began his career in the fire service as a member of the Logan Fire Company, Bellefonte, Pa. in 1977 and then pursued a career in the United States Air Force as a Fire Protection Specialist serving until his retirement in 1994. He is currently certified as an Airport Firefighter, Fire Inspector 2, Fire Instructor 3, Fire Investigator 2, and Fire Officer 3 through the International Fire Service Accreditation Congress. He has worked as a Local Level and Adjunct Instructor for the Pennsylvania State Fire Academy and was awarded Instructor Emeritus status in 2016.
Ed currently serves as the Fire Chief and Financial Secretary of the East Derry Volunteer Fire Company, Mifflin County, Pennsylvania. In addition to his volunteer work for his fire company he also serves as a volunteer for the Responder Safety Network, Pennsylvania State Advocate for the NFFF Everyone Goes Home Program, the Advisory Committee for the Firefighter Injury and Safety Trends Project at Drexel University and on the Board of Directors for the Lehigh Valley Burn Prevention Foundation.
Ed is a member of the IAFC Eastern Division, Safety-Health and Survival Section and the Volunteer Combination Officers Section. He is also a member of The Fire Department Safety Officers Association, International Society of Fire Service Instructors and numerous local and regional organizations throughout Pennsylvania.
He currently lives in Lewistown, Pa. with his wife and two adult children.
