A National Qualitative Study of Tobacco Use Among Career Firefighters and Department Health Personnel

In the only recent population-based prevalence study of tobacco use among firefighters (both career and volunteer) conducted in the eight state Midwestern region, Haddock, Jitnarin, Poston, Tuley, and Jahnke (2011) found that the unadjusted rate of smoking among male career firefighters was 13.6% and the age-standardized rate using the data from the Department of Defense was 16.2%
