Because company officers are the first level of supervision in virtually all fire service agencies, they are the most influential force in instilling values and shaping climate, culture, and expectations. They are the face of the enterprise to those on the line, and the first resource for resolution of any sort of tension or difficulty. They are the leaders who turn policy into practice and expectations into actions and ultimately identities. It is only reasonable that company officers should become the focus for putting the principles of SFA into play at the at the line level.
This learning model provides a Chaplain’s adaptation of the Stress First Aid for Emergency Responders program. This module teaches a set of proven principles and practical actions that help Chaplains use spiritual guidance and the SFA framework to assist emergency responders with the early intervention of, and recovery from, traumatic stress.
In this course, you will learn about the supportive set of actions to help first responders and their fellow emergency responders assist each other in mitigating the negative impacts of stress.
In this course, you will learn about the state of women in emergency services and complete a comparative analysis of the health of men and women emergency responders. Throughout the course, you will complete modules on reproductive health concerns, health and fitness, cancer risks, the impact of discrimination and harassment, and the prevalence of injuries among women emergency responders.
Hands-On Learning, Real Connections: The Power of In-Person Training
SFA is a flexible set of tools used to care for stress reactions in fire and EMS personnel. Unlike other acute stress management procedures, SFA was designed specifically to support firefighters and EMS personnel. The goal of SFA is to restore health and readiness after a stress reaction. SFA is a toolkit that emphasizes the importance of continuously monitoring the stress of fire and rescue personnel, to quickly recognize and appropriately help individuals who are reacting to stress and are in need of interventions to promote healing.
